When can I use coupons at Kaiser Permanente?

You can use coupons for medications on Kaiser Permanente’s approved list above. The list of coupon-eligible medications is subject to change without notice, so check this page for the most up-to-date information. Some health plans aren’t eligible for coupon use, and not all coupons are accepted at Kaiser Permanente. Here are several cases when coupons aren’t accepted:

  • Coupons can’t be used online the first time you fill a prescription. You must visit a Kaiser Permanente pharmacy in person the first time you use a coupon.
  • Coupons can’t be used toward deductibles in high-deductible health plans that are designed to be compatible with health savings accounts. Members can use coupons for coupon-eligible medications purchased after their deductible has been met. Medication purchases which apply any amount toward meeting the deductible are not eligible for coupon use.
  • Members covered by Medicare, Medicaid, Tri-Care, or other government programs aren’t eligible to use coupons.

If you use a coupon with a health plan that isn’t eligible for coupon use, you may be asked to pay your standard share of the cost based on your plan details.

How do I find drug manufacturer coupons?
You can start by searching for drug manufacturer coupons online. Once you find a coupon, it’s up to you to enroll and access the coupon as defined by the manufacturer’s terms and conditions.3
How do I use a coupon when filling my prescription at a Kaiser Permanente pharmacy?
To use a coupon, you should take it to a Kaiser Permanente retail pharmacy in person. Be sure to provide your coupon when filling your prescription for the first time. Once you’ve filled your initial prescription at a retail pharmacy, you can refill it online for delivery or in-person pickup. The important thing is that you must visit a retail pharmacy in person the first time you use a coupon. For prescriptions only available at Kaiser Permanente National Specialty Pharmacy please contact the pharmacy.
How much will I have to pay when I use a coupon?

The amount you’ll need to pay depends on the manufacturer’s coupon program and your health plan. If a coupon doesn’t cover the entire amount due for your prescription as determined by your coverage, you’ll be responsible for the difference. When you use an approved coupon for payment toward the amount you owe through your coverage, the coupon value counts towards your out-of-pocket maximum.

Please keep in mind prices reflected on kp.org or the KP app may not reflect final cost to you when refilling medication with a manufacturer coupon. Call your preferred pharmacy to confirm final price of medication using manufacturer coupon.
